"You filthy slut, what are you so surprised about?" Selena's voice dripped with venom as she spat insult after insult, repeatedly calling Xenia degrading names.
"The Stone family has already been ruined because of Alexander's retaliation, and I've lost all the dignity and face of a wealthy socialite. So why wouldn't I step into the slums?"
She sneered. "Not to mention, I brought you here myself!"
"This place makes it much easier for me to torment you, doesn't it?" Selena's words were calculated, meant to amplify Xenia's fear.
"The slums are a mess of endless gangs and factions. Practically every street is controlled by someone different. Even Alexander would find his power limited if he set foot here. So if he wants to find me—and by extension, you—it's nearly impossible!"
