Chapter Thirteen

Tiselle We didn’t leave the hospital until almost ten at night. Luckily, Asralyn had them take me to an E.R. that was closer to the hotel than the one I visited the night before, so it wasn’t a long ride back. Asralyn insisted they send me home with a wheelchair even though I didn’t need one. Despite that not being the way things are usually done, they agreed, but only after Asralyn signed an agreement that she would personally return it or pay for the wheelchair if it didn’t get returned within one month’s time. She personally wheeled me through the hotel all the way to the room that she had rebooked for me. Once there, Asralyn made a quick call to request a few things, then she wheeled me into the bathroom where she used a warm, wet washcloth to wipe down my face that was still streaked from mascara and tears running down it. When she was done wiping down my face, Asralyn smiled at me and hummed, “Much better. Now I can see that beautiful complexion of yours. You know, Tiselle, you have flawless skin. How do you do it?” Returning a small smile, I shrugged my shoulders and answered, “I don’t know. I guess it’s just natural for me.” “It’s a blessing,” Asralyn mumbled, walking behind me. As she started pulling the pins out of my hair, she cleared her throat and asked, “Is Giselle your sister?” “Yes,” I answered. “Will I get the honor of meeting her while you are staying at the hotel?” Asralyn asked. I sighed, wishing that could happen, but it simply couldn’t, so I glumly answered, “No, she’s too far away.” “Oh, I’m sorry,” Asralyn quietly responded, then she fell silent for several seconds before more cheerfully saying, “That’s okay, you will have me here to help, and if I have to step away, I will have one of my most trusted people stay nearby in case you need anything.” It felt weird to have this woman be so nice to me. It really didn’t make any sense, so I mumbled, “Asralyn?” “Huh?” she hummed, while unrolling my hair from the elegant bun. “Why are you being so nice and helpful to me?” I asked, getting straight to the point. “I don’t know,” Asralyn answered honestly, then she went quiet again and continued tending to my hair. A few minutes passed in silence with Asralyn gently running a brush through my hair to get the tangles out. She was clearly lost in thought, and it wasn’t hard for me to do the same. When she was done brushing out the tangles, Asralyn walked around and knelt down in front of me, then she broke me from my thoughts by saying, “To be honest, Tiselle, I feel oddly connected to you somehow. I can’t explain it, but I know deep down that I am supposed to help you.” I smiled at my new friend and admitted, “I appreciate everything you are doing for me. I’ve never had a good, true friend. Perhaps you will be the one to change that.” “I hope to be. Everyone should have at least one true friend. Now, let’s get you out of that ugly hospital gown and into something more comfortable,” Asralyn insisted, standing upright and turning the wheelchair around, so she could push me back into the main room. After retrieving items that Asralyn had her people leave outside the door, she helped me to my feet, then she proceeded to help me out of the hospital gown and into a fresh nightgown. I felt a little weird to be seen naked by someone I had known for such a short amount of time, but it was far from the first time, and I assumed it wouldn’t be the last time either. Luckily, the pretty dark green nightgown had spaghetti straps, making it easier to pull it over the cast on my arm. As I rubbed my good hand down the front to smooth it out, I realized the nightgown was made of silk. Soft, luxurious silk with beautiful floral lace added at the top to bring your man’s eyes to your breasts. I looked at Asralyn with my eyes widened from surprise and rushed to say, “I can’t accept this nightgown from you. This is far too expensive.” “Please, take it! I insist! I must have at least two dozen of these,” she informed me, refusing to take the nightgown back. Next, she handed me a matching robe, and the arms of the robe were plenty big enough for me to wear it over the cast. To top it off, she placed a pair of dark green plush house slippers at my feet. I threw my good arm around Asralyn and hugged her as tight as I could. With tears of happiness falling from my eyes, I sniffled and mumbled, “Thank you! I don’t know what I would do right now if I didn’t have your help.” And I meant it. I would be in such a bad place if I didn’t have Asralyn propping me up right now. Figuratively and literally. The strong medication running through my body was making me quite dizzy, causing me to get wobbly on my feet. Asralyn reacted quickly and helped me with the few steps to the bed. Once I was safely seated on the bed, she insisted on helping me get covered with the blankets, then she pulled the chair over from the little table and sat next to the bed. I was a bit too loopy to talk about anything of importance, so I asked Asralyn about how she met her husband. She seemed really happy to tell me about her life with her husband, and I was happy to simply listen. However, I wasn’t able to be very attentive. No thanks to the medication, I found myself nodding in and out of sleep, only catching bits and pieces of what she was saying. At one point, I swear I heard her phone ring, then I thought I heard her talking angrily to somebody, but that didn’t last long. To be honest, I wasn’t even sure if I was actually awake for that, or if it was just a dream. All I know is that I woke up the next morning alone in the hotel room. Asralyn had left a note on the table, letting me know that there was somebody waiting outside in the hall to help me with anything I needed help with. She also left me her phone number with instructions to call when I was feeling well enough to have a serious conversation with her about a future business opportunity.
