“Selene, wait…”
I ended the call before Melissa could say anything else. My hand shook as I lowered the phone to the bed, but my attention was already locked on Leena.
She had stood there in the doorway like she didn’t even belong to this world. Her eyes were wide, distant, and glassy, with her hair sticking to her face in messy strands. A trickle of blood ran down the side of her face, soaking the collar of her torn dress. But what struck me the most, what completely shattered me, was that she was holding two heavy shopping bags like they were made of gold.
“Leena?” My voice cracked as I rushed towards her. “What happened to you?”
