Chapter 9: Now He Was Here
(Aiden's POV)
Evelyn was playing with Elara, helping her arrange the small trophy she'd won at training. I watched with satisfaction as my daughter clung to Evelyn's side, chattering excitedly about her accomplishments.
"Look, Mom! The trainer said I was the fastest in my age group!" Elara beamed, holding up her small golden wolf figurine.
"That's wonderful, sweetheart," Evelyn cooed, stroking Elara's blonde curls. "I'm so proud of you."
The scene filled me with contentment. Evelyn was perfect as my lover and mother to my pups.
"How's Seraphina doing?" Julian's voice suddenly cut through my pleasant mood.
I tensed, annoyed that he had brought up my problematic mate when I was finally relaxing.
"She woke up yesterday," I said after a moment's hesitation.
