DYLAN I could hear her crying outside, but I couldn’t bring myself to go after her. Sitting down on one of the sofas, I rubbed my face wearily, pressing my fingertips against my eyes tightly. Why was I making this so hard? All I had to do was try to accept that what had happened had already happened, and make an effort to begin things afresh, but even that I couldn’t do. Was I that stubborn? Or did I think myself to be so perfect I was definitely above such mistakes? My mind shot back to the night before. I hated to think what would have happened had Brielle not shown up when she did. Would I have slept with Madeline? Well, I guess we’ll never know. It was funny how I had almost made the mistake I was accusing her of. I couldn’t take her back! No, I wasn’t there yet.
