I shake as elves drag me out from underneath Valdrin’s tentacles. The light they brought cuts through the darkness Valdrin lulled me in. I blink through the brightness, finding several elves victorious over what’s left of my mate. My eyes locks on him, grieving for the beauty lost from the world. Valdrin was huge, larger than I thought when I was coiled up in his embrace. I’ve never seen a Kraken or anything like him before. His body consisted of a colossal head and a mass of tentacles spread out—no arms or legs, only tentacles. I can understand why someone would think his form was similar to an animal, but he wasn’t. He was sentient, kind, and gentle. I desperately want to cry and hold on to my mate. I want him near me, to bring him home with me. I want him to live! Once again, elves do
