24: Third acceptance

I’m blinded when we enter the little hut. My eyes don’t adjust to the darkness by the time my new mate puts me on the soft furs and leaves. I sit with my arms around my knees and follow the shadow of my orc-mate with my other senses more than my eyes. She doesn’t go far from me. She becomes clearer as she enters the little moonlight from the opening at the top. My orc-mate moves as if she is used to finding what she needs in the hut. It doesn’t take her long before the brightness of an oil lamp almost burns with brightness; I have to shield my eyes for a second. The light rises as she lifts it and fastens it to a pole in the middle of the hut. With the light helping me see, I can take in my surroundings. The hut is robust and made to withstand time and weather. Wooden poles lean to a bar
