I let Grey walk a few paces ahead of me on the way back inside, though I am not entirely sure why. Maybe because the last hour with her had felt easier than I think either of us could have predicted. It was not because she had suddenly become pleasant, or because we had agreed on everything, because neither of those things were entirely true. It had been easy in the way things become when two people stop getting in each other's way long enough to realise they can actually do something well together. And we had.
