I awoke with a start to the sound of my cell phone ringing. I’d been sleeping hard. I scooted closer to the edge of the bed, flung my hand onto my nightstand, and fumbled with the buttons on the side of my phone. I breathed a sigh of relief when the intrusive ringing went silent, and my eyes drooped shut again. But just when I was beginning to drift back to sleep, my phone rang once more. I grabbed it, frustrated, and looked at the screen through squinted eyes. It was Finnian, and it was only 7:17am. I sighed in exasperation. I forced myself to sit up, and I rubbed my left eye with my free hand. I glanced next to me.
