A phone rang. The tension between Cordelia and Elizabeth was not relieved by it. If anything, it was heightened. Elizabeth squirmed a little as Cordelia loosened her hold on her, pressing her hands against Cordelia’s shoulders to try and shove her away. The freshly stitched wound in her hand shot a jolt of agonizing pain through her, but the adrenaline wasn’t enough to free herself.
