Lucian let out a shaky breath, then gently pulled her hands off his arms. “I’m fine,” he said again, voice quieter now. “Just… go back to the party, Georgia.” She blinked, stunned. “Lucian...” He didn’t give her a chance to finish. In one slow but deliberate move, he pushed himself off the wall and started walking down the hallway. His steps were uneven, but determined. He didn’t look back. Georgia stood frozen for a moment, her red gown fanning out around her feet. Her mind raced. He looked sick. Off. Like something wasn’t right. And yet he just walked away from her like none of it mattered. Her fists clenched. She turned and followed him. The soft sound of her heels echoed again, faster now, chasing after the man who clearly didn’t want her to. But she didn’t care. Not this time.
