“Why?” I asked. I had anticipated some difficulty with transferring, but Annie’s reaction made it seem impossible.
“The timing isn’t ideal,” Annie replied. “The school is hard enough to get into, but admissions have just closed for the year.”
“I can’t give up,” I said. “I have to find a way to transfer. Aunt Gina doesn’t have much time left. If I go back to the Timber Pack, she could be gone before I return again.”
Annie nodded. “I’ll help you however I can, of course. Your Aunt Gina is the best and deserves as much time with you as you can give her. But there’s something else to consider…”
I didn’t want to hear that. More obstacles? “What else?”
“Alex’s fiancé also goes to the university,” Annie said carefully, as if afraid of my reaction. “She’d be one year ahead of you.”
