“I can’t guarantee you’ll be admitted,” Nicholas said.
“Still, thank you,” I said. “It’s only with your help that I’ll be able to try. I swear I won’t let you down. I’ll prove to you and to the other examiners that I’m worth taking the chance on.”
Nicholas hummed, watching me. “I do admire you, in a way, for showing me a different side of yourself. I’d always assumed you were just a spoiled little princess who depended on her brother for everything. But today, you’ve proven to me that you are more than that. You are someone who is willing to fight for opportunities of her own.”
My heart ached at his words. I would have liked to continue depending on Alex, but I couldn’t dare with how things were now.
