CHAPTER 12

He grabbed my shoulders and shook me to return to the present but my mind was empty and I just stared at him. Then, I blinked. I knew I blinked my eyes. I could tell from the movement of his mouth that he’s talking to me but I couldn’t speak a single word! “Cassie! Hey! What’s wrong?” I tried…but it’s difficult. Then I saw him moved towards me and I was terrified! However, his warm embrace touched my heart deeply and I was able to breathe again. “Shhhh…,” he whispered while trying to comfort me. I was touched but I couldn’t tell anyone about the incident that happened some years ago in our residence. I wished I could, but no, it’s impossible. The secret would be buried along with me on my grave and it’s a promise! “L-let me go,” I tried to get away from him as soon as possible. “Are you sick?” He inquired. I glared at him for being nosy. How dare he barged into my home office and caused me to be in an uncomfortable situation. “Get out!” I ordered for him to leave me alone but the bastard seemed to have a listening problem. Instead of heading towards the door, he aimed for the sofa and immediately crossed his legs after sitting down. I arched my eyebrows at his action because I’ve never met anyone like him in the past. He’s so different and stubborn! “Sit down, Cassie.” “Wait, did you just order me to sit down?” I was befuddled at his audacity.  I was never good at taking orders and I usually did the opposite. How dare him to order me around in my territory! “Yes, come here and sit down,” he said. “Seriously? Are you asking for trouble Keith?” I didn’t mind using his first name since he’s been calling with my first name. “If your name is trouble, then yes.” I rolled my eyes at him and then I retrieved the whip on my table. He jumped up in surprise when I almost hit his hand. “How adorable,” I jested when he kept a distance from me. “Why do you have something dangerous on your hand? Discard it right now!” “Whoa, when did I give you the right to boss me around? In case you have forgotten, you are in my office, Keith.” I reminded him that he’s on my turf and I could do anything if I’d like it. “If you don’t like to sit down then we can talk while standing,” he announced in a menacing voice but I wasn’t scared at all. I crossed my arms and confidently stood in front of him. “Then talk,” I commanded. “Adrianna mentioned that you’re looking for a stud to impregnate you,” he started but when he paused in the middle, the tip of my eyebrow lifted to question him. “So what?” “I volunteered,” he replied. “Thank you, Keith but you are not what I’m looking for,” I told him and he was shocked. Why? Did he believe that he’s irresistible enough to meet my standards? He could be handsome but his body arts would stop me from liking him. Keith became silent for a moment as if he was thinking about his next move. However, I didn’t give him the chance to do it in my office. My space was sacred and I couldn’t let just anybody tint it. “If you have nothing else to tell me, you can go out now.” “Hmmm, you haven’t answered my query until now. So how old were you when Lance Anderson was murdered?” “Murder? Be mindful with your words, sir. My father was in an accident on my mom’s birthday and that’s all you have to know. If you want to know more about the accident, you shouldn’t ask me,” I said. “But you are the perfect person I can talk to! You were at the rooftop when it happened, right?” I smiled at Keith and advanced towards him to mask my nervousness. “I see that you’re fishing for some information, Keith. Who sent you?” Keith must have realized that he made a mistake in mentioning the old case. I found out his secret and he was probably sent by our competitor to dig some dirt in my family. “Don’t wait that an officer to come.  Get out!” “I’m giving you a week to cooperate or you will regret it,” he threatened me inside my home. “How dare you threaten me here? Do you want to die?” I shouted at him and he didn’t even flinch a little. I began to wonder about his real identity when he didn’t cower before me. After all, Keith wasn’t the first person that our enemies hired to check on us. Keith just smirked and stood up as nothing happened. “One week,” he repeated the ultimatum but I could only raise my eyebrow while watching him leave the office. When he was finally gone, I took a deep breath and shut down my computer. I went outside to eat something but I was surprised to see him in the dining room with my mother. He had the audacity to smile at me and I scowled at him. “What are you doing here?” “Cassie! Don’t be rude to our visitor,” Adrianna scolded me because of him and I didn’t like it one bit. I stared daggers at Keith but he only shrugged off his shoulders. I tried to ignore him but his mere presence inside our home threatened my peace of mind. “Mom, you know that I’m not comfortable with anyone coming here,” I reminded my mom. “He’s not just anyone, darling. He’s a neighbor,” she said. I realized that no matter what I say, my mom wouldn’t listen to me. She was obviously smitten with Keith’s charms. I sighed in frustration and went to get yogurt. Afterward, I returned to my room and contemplating what to do next. With a yogurt in one of my hands, I browsed the club’s website on my phone to check if there were new members. Ever since the club was in operation, it had been a norm that men wanted their mistresses who were members of the clubs. My mother said that the club would ensure that no legal wives would be stressed out. I chuckled at its nonsense! In my case, I could never accept a mistress despite being groomed to be a perfect mistress. Usually, I would only check the latest members because there were thousands of them already. Nevertheless, I managed to be updated in their movement because I couldn’t allow anyone to damage the club’s reputation. There were about three hundred new members but I managed to check their faces one by one. After browsing the club’s website, I was bored. I thought of going outside but where should I go? To the movie house? To a plaza? I had no idea! After a minute of thorough consideration, I found myself on social media and searching for Keith’s profile. Why did I ever do that? I tried to stop but when I stumbled upon a profile picture that resembled the man who was with my mom, I immediately clicked it. All of a sudden, I was focused on checking every photo that he posted online but there was no vital information about him online. The photos were all about himself, his piercings, and his tattoos. There were women but they couldn’t be his girlfriend, right? Amongst the women in his gallery, there was one woman who had several photos on Keith’s gallery. Could she be the girlfriend? The said woman piqued my interest and I ended up searching his friends who would match the woman’s face.   “Gotcha!” I exclaimed as soon as I found the person of interest and I was shocked! The woman’s dead and she used to be a club member!
