I stared at the now-empty doorway, my jaw slack and my eyes wide. But most of all, the pain I felt in my chest had begun to radiate outward, traveling down to my belly, my legs, the tips of my toes.
Zelda stepped into my vision. “Are you okay?” she asked, looking concerned.
I wanted to lie and say I was, but no words could come out. I just stood there, stunned and… hurting.
I’d always found pregnancy to be one of the most beautiful, natural things in the world. The way a womb could create and hold life was nothing short of ethereal, a gift from the Moon Goddess herself. In my eyes, women were offspring of the Goddess, reservoirs for life and beauty.
