“Who were those men just now?” the boy asked in his quiet voice, his tone hinting at his curiosity. Through the sliding doors that connected it to the back courtyard, he had come to join Bai Ruyi at the house’s central living area. “They’re not servants, aren’t they?” From his floor cushion in front of a low writing desk, Bai Ruyi had looked up at Qing Xue upon hearing his first question. Instead of answering, however, he returned to flipping through the stacks of writings in front of him before asking, “Are you done with tending the garden?” “Yes,” the boy obediently answered. “Have you washed up properly?” “Yes.” Bai Ruyi nodded absently. “Good.” The boy finally became a little impatient. “But who are they?” he repeated.  With a small smile of amusement, Bai Ruyi finally looked up
