Episode 1 —— Under the moon’s embrace
Episode 1 — The Night the Bond Found Me
The forest had never felt this alive before.
Every leaf whispered secrets. Every branch groaned with meaning. Even the wind seemed to breathe with purpose as it slipped through the pines, carrying a scent that made Lila’s heart stumble in her chest.
Strawberries and wildflowers.
Her scent.
She didn’t know why she was running.
Only that something inside her had woken with the moon.
Lila pushed through the underbrush, boots quiet against damp earth. Her long brown hair whipped behind her as if the forest itself were urging her forward. The silver glow of the full moon painted everything in soft shadows, catching in her bright blue eyes as they scanned the trees.
Her chest felt tight.
Not fear.
Anticipation.
Something was wrong. Or right. She couldn’t tell the difference anymore.
For weeks now, she had felt it—the pull. The ache deep in her bones when the moon rose too high. The restless dreams filled with glowing eyes she didn’t recognize and arms she had never known but somehow missed.
Tonight, the pull had become unbearable.
She slowed suddenly, pressing a hand to her chest as her breath came shallow.
Then she felt him.
Not by sight. Not by sound.
By presence.
A steady, powerful awareness surged through the air, flooding her senses all at once. Her wolf—quiet for so long—stirred violently inside her ribs, slamming against her heart as if it recognized something her mind couldn’t yet grasp.
And then the scent hit her.
Chocolate.
Rich. Dark. Warm.
And pine trees after rain—deep, clean, wild.
The smell wrapped around her like invisible arms, tightening with every breath she took. Her knees nearly buckled. Every instinct in her screamed a single word that terrified her with its certainty.
Mate.
“No,” she whispered, backing up a step. “That’s not possible…”
She had been told her mate would never come. That not everyone was meant to find one. That some wolves were born to be alone.
She had believed it.
Until now.
A shadow moved between the trees.
Lila’s breath hitched as the darkness parted—and he stepped into the moonlight.
He was tall. Broad-shouldered. Built with quiet dominance that didn’t need to announce itself. Long brown hair fell loosely past his shoulders, catching silver where the moon touched it. He wore black, blending into the night like he belonged to it.
Then she saw his eyes.
Blue.
Not the soft blue of summer skies.
Not the pale blue of ice.
But something rare. Shining. Almost luminous—like starlight trapped behind crystal.
She forgot how to breathe.
For a moment, neither of them moved.
The forest fell silent around them. No birds. No insects. No wind.
Only the pounding of two hearts that suddenly beat too fast.
“You’re… real,” he murmured.
His voice was deep. Rough. Like a growl wrapped in velvet.
The sound sent a shiver racing down her spine.
She swallowed hard. “You’ve felt it too?”
His jaw tensed. Slowly, carefully, he nodded. “For weeks. Your scent keeps haunting me. Pulling me into the woods night after night like I’m losing my mind.”
Her heart skipped painfully. “I thought I was imagining it.”
He took one cautious step closer.
The bond flared.
Heat surged through her veins like liquid fire. Her wolf lifted its head fully now, pressing forward with desperate recognition.
“Every instinct in me knew it was you,” he said quietly. “I just didn’t know who ‘you’ were. Until tonight.”
Her breath trembled. “The elders always said the bond would be overwhelming. I didn’t believe them.”
A faint smile touched his lips—soft and disbelieving. “Neither did I.”
Moonlight spilled over them as the distance between their bodies shortened. The air felt charged, thick with unseen energy wrapping tighter with every breath they shared.
“How do you know my name?” she whispered suddenly. “I never told you.”
His eyes widened just slightly. “You never had to. The moment I scented you, it was already there. Lila. Like the truth settling into my bones.”
Her knees weakened.
“Caleb,” she breathed without thinking.
He froze.
Slow realization crossed his face. “You know mine too.”
“Yes.”
Their gazes locked.
Something ancient and sacred clicked into place.
He lifted his hand slowly, giving her time to pull away.
She didn’t.
The moment his fingers brushed hers, sparks exploded between them—hot, bright, undeniable. She gasped as warmth surged through her palm, up her arm, into her chest as if the bond had finally found its voice.
She didn’t pull back.
Neither did he.
He stepped closer. The scent of chocolate and pine wrapped her completely now, grounding her, claiming her senses. Her breath stuttered as his presence filled the small space between them.
“Your eyes,” she whispered, transfixed. “They’re… breathtaking.”
His lips parted slightly. “So are yours. Like moonlit water. I could drown in them.”
Her pulse skipped.
The forest felt distant. Unreal.
All that existed was him.
Caleb lifted his hand to her face, hesitating only a second before his thumb brushed her cheek. The touch was feather-soft—but it ignited fire beneath her skin.
“I’ve been searching for you my whole life,” he said quietly. “Even when I didn’t know I was searching.”
Emotion flooded her chest, sharp and sudden. “I thought I was broken for wanting something I couldn’t explain.”
“You weren’t broken,” he murmured. “You were waiting.”
Tears pricked her eyes.
“I’ll never let you go,” he vowed softly.
Her voice shook. “You won’t have to. I’d follow this bond across worlds if I had to.”
Their foreheads almost touched.
The bond surged violently between them—two souls snapping into alignment under the full moon’s witness.
But then—
A sharp howl sliced through the night.
Lila stiffened.
Caleb’s head snapped up, eyes hardening instantly. His body shifted subtly into a protective stance in front of her.
Another howl answered the first.
Not welcoming.
Hunting.
Caleb cursed under his breath. “They’ve found us.”
Her heart slammed against her ribs. “Who?”
“My pack,” he said grimly. “And possibly ones who would kill you before allowing the bond to settle.”
Fear surged through her—but beneath it burned something fiercer.
Defiance.
“You won’t give me to them,” she said.
He turned to her, eyes blazing. “Never.”
More howls echoed closer now.
Closer.
Caleb’s fingers tightened around hers. “Run with me, Lila. Trust me.”
She didn’t hesitate.
She ran.
The forest burst back into sound as they tore through the trees together, breath and footsteps sync’d as if they had trained side by side their entire lives. The bond thrummed between them with every stride—guiding, driving, binding.
Whatever waited beyond this night…
Their fate had already chosen its path.
And the moon had marked them.
