The infirmary bed was empty.
For a heartbeat, Tristan’s mind went white, the air rushing from his lungs as though he had been struck in the chest. He gripped the bed frame hard enough that the wood creaked under his palm.
“She’s gone,” he whispered, voice ragged.
Gone? Thorne’s roar thundered in his head. You drove her off, Tristan! She was ours, and you tied her like prey. You doubted her, and now she’s gone!
“No,” Tristan ground out, chest heaving. “Not again. I won’t lose her again.”
His wolf snarled, pacing, frantic. You already lost her once. Jalen took her love, her place, her pride. And now you’ve shown her she cannot trust us either.
