Evandra had learned quickly how to move through the space without drawing attention. She kept her tone soft, her hands steady, her smile ready for the children who clung to her skirts. Jack thought putting her here would bind her to Evans, but Evandra had found something else instead: opportunity. It was on her third day among the pups that she found the cellar. She had been leading two toddlers down the corridor to the kitchen for snacks when she noticed the narrow door, half-hidden by crates stacked along the wall.
