“Won’t you introduce me to your family?” I asked Ruiz as we all settled down on the dining table.
Ruiz took a deep breath and cleared his throat. “This is my mother.” He gestured to the older woman who sat opposite him. “These are my sisters, Rosa and Lucia.” He pointed to the other two girls.
I waved at them again with a wide smile.
“This is Ava, my girlfriend.” Ruiz introduced me to his family. That was the first time someone had ever referred to me as their girlfriend.
