Dave had been falling through a strange space. The portal he had jumped in wasn't like any he had seen in TV shows or read in books, this one caused his skin to keep shredding and coming back together. He struggled not to scream as the process was really painful, he looked to his right, he could see Zenaida and Max, at his left was Dimitry. They were both falling deeper into the portal. Their skins kept shredding and coming back together but since they were unconscious, they couldn't feel the pain.
