The Betrayal
OLIVIA.
I scooped up a spoonful of flour and added to the mixture I had already made, feeling Angelica’s eyes watching me run around in the kitchen. I had decided to prepare breakfast for everyone in the pack today. And oh, it is happening for the first time ever since I became Luna three years ago.
“I have never seen anything make you this happy.” Angelica commented and I threw a smile at her, unable to contain the joy within me.
“Isn’t it good? For the first time, I can’t even contain my emotions.” I mean who wouldn’t be happy? I was carrying a child within me. Mine and my husband’s pup. Everyone has been demanding an heir and while I don’t care if it was a boy or a girl, I really just wanted a child of my own. Now… finally… finally, I’ll be having my own pup..
“It is good that you’re happy, but have you decided how you’re going to tell him?”
This question caused me to pause for a brief moment as my thoughts spiraled.
I was married to the Alpha of one of the most powerful packs in snow mark city. He was feared and revered by all. It doesn’t matter how strong you are, just his presence would make you submit. As a lowly Omega three years ago, I could only admire him from afar but who knew the goddess would bring us together and I’d become his mate. He claimed me in front of everyone without hesitation that year, despite already having a fiancée. One who matched his status.
He married me and ignored every other person but I could tell he wasn’t happy. I wasn’t strong enough to stand beside him, to fight alongside him. I wasn’t enough to compliment the raw power he possessed and so, I have always been looked down on, even by him. He doesn’t say it but I could feel it whenever he looked at me. His gaze was always cold and reserved, as if he couldn’t bother much, as if only his wolf was driving him to mate with me.
Still, I couldn’t complain. He has also tried his best to provide me with whatever I wanted and elevated my status. I couldn’t be too greedy and want his love and affection even if that was the one and only thing I desired.
“Things are still bad with Brian, aren’t they?” Angelica pressed when she saw how my emotion took a drastic change.
I shook my head and sighed, rubbing my belly with my flour-stained hands. “Once I have this baby, everything will change. Brian will love me and we will be a happy family of three.” I could already imagine it, us. Me, Brian and our little pup running around in the pack’s courtyard, blowing bubbles at each other.
“That’s just your dream.” Angelica reminded me, pulling me out from my fantasies. It indeed was just a dream. A dream I would do anything to achieve.
“Fine.” I said and took in a long breath. “It might not change his feelings for me drastically, but something is going to improve alright?”
“I hope so too, my friend.” Angelica said, staring at my belly. She stood from her seat and hugged me. “This baby is going to be a blessing indeed. A couple more months and you’d be a mother.”
“You’ll be his god mother.” I said to my friend of twenty years who was also a learning doctor and had been the one to know that I was pregnant first before we went to check with the pack’s doctor. We’ve been best friends for so many years now.
I watched her lips stretch into a beautiful smile as she stared at my still flat belly. “I’ll be so happy to be his godmother.”
A smile stretched across my own lips; a kind of joy I’d never experienced before quickly filled my chest but it didn’t last long.
My face quickly contorted into a frown as I felt something sharp slice the insides of my stomach. I hurried to steady my footing before it came again, this time worse than the last. It caused me to quickly break out in cold sweat as Angelica hovered over me, her expression filled with worry as she asked me,
“What’s wrong? Liv, talk to me!” she tried to hold me up but my legs had weakened and a scream cut through my throat as I collapsed to the floor, holding my belly, fearing for my baby.
What was going on? I didn’t know too. I just knew that the pain was killing me.
Angelica checked my pulse. Her expression changed into that of fear and she quickly grabbed my phone to call for help but it started ringing before she did. It was an unknown number and she picked it up and placed it on loud speaker so I could hear.
The voice that came out from the phone was contorted. I couldn’t recognize it at all.
“Olivia, did you receive my little gift?” I couldn’t tell if it was a man or a woman but I sure as hell was confused. What gift was he talking about?
The pain kept eating me up as I waited for the caller to explain what he meant but he only ended the call.
Angelica looked at my phone and her face only went pale as she looked at me with dread.
“What is it?” I asked despite the pain killing me. “Show me, Lica. What did you see?” somehow, it felt like I already knew but then I didn’t at the same time.
I snatched the phone from her, my hands trembling and my vision blurry as I tried to see what was written on it. They weren’t words though, but pictures.
Pictures of my husband, Alpha Brian, with another woman as they entered a hotel together. The woman looked familiar and looking closely, it seemed like the woman with Alpha blood my husband was originally meant to marry before I came in the way.
Now, they were together.
That could explain the pain I was feeling. My husband was cheating. And this pain, was the pain one gets when their mate was receiving pleasure from another.
It was one of the worst pain in the world, known to kill if the bearer was not strong enough.
“My baby…” it was the only thing I worried about at this moment as tears poured out of my eyes. “Lica…” I grabbed her hands with pleading gaze. “please save my baby. I can’t let him die.”
“You should be more worried about yourself, Olivia!” Oh, I didn’t care about that. I couldn’t worry about myself right now.
“You’ll be fine.” Lica assured me. “You and the baby will be fine, I will make sure. First, I need to get you the pill.” She explained. “Just stay here and be strong for me, Liv. I’ll get you the pill to ease the pain.”
I nodded, having a silver of hope as I watched Lica leave with lightning speed but even that was crushed when I stared in between my legs to see the pool of blood that had formed there.
Fear and panic entered my eyes at once just as the pain tore through my whole being once again. It was unbearable and it was killing me. My insides twisted with cruelty, stealing the breath out of my lungs.
My baby…
My pup… was gone!
