36 Jeremy reached into his pack and pulled out the twenty-four-ounce framing hammer that he’d found useful when trying to beat his way into a particular section of a wreck and offered it to the colonel. “I was kidding.” “Oh,” Jeremy put it back in the bag. Still no one spoke. He could see that Miranda was ready to leave and Holly was saying not yet. Mike was just watching the colonel with a grim look on his face.
