8 They stood at the porch steps. Raya once again freshly brushed and snoozing in the barn’s shade where it overshadowed the corral. Andrea once more wore her sneakers, though she had the distinct impression that they were the only part of her that didn’t smell strongly of horse and leather. “I—” Andrea laughed at herself. “How am I supposed to put into words how much I appreciated today?” “Try saying thank you.” Megan laughed as she did exactly that. “Would it be okay if I said something? Friend-to-friend?” Andrea nodded. “As we were riding, I was watching you. Your lack of fear, quick adaptability, and self-control are amazing. I realized as I thought back to your piloting of last night’s flight, precisely where that skill comes from. That’s so very rare. You should embrace that.
