2 “Looking for General Martinez, Colonel. He asked me to report to him.” Vicki saluted the woman who sat at the desk in the outer office. She knew that bravado was the only way through this, as she didn’t have a lot of other options. The lieutenant colonel looked at her through large horn-rimmed glasses that made her dark eyes appear larger than should be possible. Her skin was as light as Vicki’s was dark, but her hair was nearly as thick and dark—a flowing brunette rather than her own curling black.
