WHEN DAWN REGAINED CONSCIOUSNESS, the first sensation she felt was the damp chill of the earth against her cheek. She was lying on a bed of soft moss. The scent of pine and damp soil was filling her nostrils. She pressed her hands on the ground and pushed herself to sit up. She looked around her surroundings. The sunlight filtered through the dense canopy overhead, casting the forest floor dimming light. Silence was engulfed in the whole forest. Dawn was disoriented, she had no memory of how she got there. She only remembered that she was with Kylen’s mother, and then she ran into the forest. “Why would I run into the forest?” she asked herself. Dawn tried to remember what had happened.
