Hours had passed when, finally, I saw a doctor coming out of the OR. Right on his heels there was Mark, one of my oldest friends: he was close to graduating from med school, and he’d been doing his traineeship at the pack’s hospital. I hadn’t even noticed he’d gone into the OR with Becky.
Had it been anybody else, I’d have been furious that a student had been allowed to put their hands on my mate, who was fighting for her life, but Mark … I knew how good he was. Knowing he’d been there the whole time, protecting and healing her, made me feel more grounded.
