“I understand your hesitation with the MRI,” Dr. Keith tells me. “I think it will be necessary to form a proper care plan, though.”
I look down at my hands in my lap as I try not to cry. This isn’t what I want to hear. Jim’s hand moves to cover my own and squeezes.
“Is it truly safe for the baby?” he asks.
“There have been studies, and they have all returned data that it is,” the doctor says.
I look up at him through tears. “Then why won’t you just say ‘yes, it’s safe’?” I put my hand over Abe. He’s already been through too much.
“Insurance,” Dr. Keith shrugs. “Can’t get sued.”
“If it were your wife and child?” Jim asks.
“I’d do it in a heartbeat,” he says.
