Damien’s pov: The new wing felt much colder than it had any right to be. I stood outside Sera’s door for too long, my hand twitching inches from the handle. Moving her here was necessary. The right choice. Fewer people around. Fewer ways out. Fewer chances for disaster to reach her. But still, the fear in my chest wouldn't quiet down. I knocked once, very softly, and then opened the door without waiting for permission. She was sitting on the bed, her knees tucked tight to her chest, her eyes locked on the door like she expected a physical attack. Seeing her like that hurt worse than any injury I’d ever taken.
