I don’t realize how tightly I’ve been gripping the steering wheel until my knuckles ache from the strain. My fingers are stiff, locked around the leather as if letting go might unravel something I’ve been holding together for too long. The engine is off, and yet I sit here, unmoving, staring ahead at the mansion I haven't stepped foot in for years. This used to be my home. Our home. The last time I was happy here, Rora was still growing inside me. Safe. Healthy. A part of me in the most tangible way possible. A knock at the window startles me.
