Ryan introduced me to Mrs. Brown like he had promised, and she was a sweet old lady who tended to every plant like her own child. She enveloped me into a comforting hug when we met, and the gesture almost drove me to tears. It had been a long time since I'd had any motherly figures give me any affection. She took off her gardening glove and gently cupped my cheek, studying my face.
"You're a beautiful girl, dear. Alpha Xavier is very lucky to have found a mate like you. But you are also very fortunate. Xavier is a very good man, believe me or not. You will realise it eventually."
I didn't have the will to argue with her. I liked the way she treated me. So I simply offered her a smile, before turning my attention back to Ryan. "Thank you for bringing me here."
