Chapter 4

OLIVIA: The sound of Mark's phone ringing broke the awkward silence, and he said, "I have to go now, Olivia. Take care." Mark darted out of the room, and I breathed out heavily, feeling exhausted. Just then, the door swung open, and a female nurse arrived with a health worker who served me breakfast, as I saw that it was past eleven a.m. It was a plate of hot custard, milk, and two bean cakes. "How do you feel?" the female nurse asked me with a friendly smile on her pretty brown face, and I saw her resemblance to Dr. Sam. She also resembled Erica Robin, my schoolmate. "I am fine," I replied, and she nodded with a smile. She was tall, chubby, and had long brown thick hair, which she packed in a ponytail. She was wearing a white nurse cap on her head. "Alright. Take care of yourself. I'm Nurse Hazel Owen—Dr. Sam's elder sister. I'm married with two kids," she introduced herself with a soft voice, and I could feel my heart flutter at her words. "Nice to meet you, Nurse Hazel," I replied, peering at her beautiful face. I wondered why she was nice to me. Dr. Sam was also nice, and that made me reconsider his offer. But they were still strangers to me. What if they were pretending to lure me from my foster parents' home and torture me like my foster mother and sister did? "You don't have to worry. I heard my brother's offer to you. But he's not a bad person. Sam is only trying to help you from a place of love. Besides, Alpha Johnson won't be happy finding out that your foster parents treated you poorly. It's against the adoption rules and regulations of the Starfield Pack," she said, speaking to me like I was her friend. "Thank you, Nurse. I will reconsider Dr. Sam's offer. But that's after I have gotten home to get my stuff," I replied, my tone soft, my eyes watching her, and she smiled. "Alright. Take care, Olivia," Nurse Hazel said, as she walked to the door and exited the room. I resumed eating my breakfast, my head aching at the thought of moving to a total stranger's house. If I wasn't a wolfless Omega, I could have been thrilled at the thought of finding my mate, but then, I had no wolf to help me find him—the man who could have been destined for me by the Moon Goddess. As I finished my meal, I pushed the bed table aside and wiped my tears. I knew crying didn't solve anything. I had to be strong, and that was what I made up my mind to do. I laid back on the bed, my back resting on it, as I succumbed to sleep. --- MARK: "Mark, what kept you so long?" my basketball coach, Tyler Benjamin, yelled at me as I arrived late at the basketball court. We had a match against the Red Ballers in our pack. They didn't want to take their losses, but that wasn't my place to tell them to give up trying. Aside from playing for the Yellow Ballers basketball team in my pack, I also played against other top packs, as I was among the Starfield Basketball team players. "I am sorry, Coach. Something came up, and I had to hurry over," I replied, joining the court, and my coach frowned. "Get into positions! The game is about to start!" Coach Tyler barked, his cold voice cutting off my excuse. I ran to join my team of basketball players. We have the triplets—Carter, Caleb, and Cooper Grayson—who are the center players. They are responsible for shot blocking, rebounding, and defending the ball. They are dark-skinned, attractive, tall, and identical, and they are Omegas too. We also have Alpha Johnson's son, Bryan Anderson. He is twenty-five years old, dark-skinned, tall, and plays as our shooting guard. He strokes the ball, covering long range and scoring many points. He is my teammate, and we are good friends. His Beta, Daniel Ryan, is our power forward player, focusing on rebounding and defense. I play as the versatile player, the small forward. Together, we make a great team, since becoming the Yellow Ballers in our set. As the basketball match kicked off, my mood improved, as Logan, my wolf, was happy that Olivia was finally awake. Logan told me that Olivia could be my mate. I knew I used to avoid her, and I hardly talked to her, but since she became a teenager and started developing breasts, I couldn't stop thinking of her rapid growth, and I am unconcerned whether she has a wolf or not. Olivia is pretty and everything I want in my woman. She is of average height, with striking blonde hair that bounces and waves whenever she lets it down. She has the most amazing smile that could capture any man's heart, but she rarely smiles, and only a few times have I caught her laughing with her best friend, Erica Robin. "Mark, Olivia is possibly our mate, even though she doesn't have a wolf. She is still acceptable and beautiful," Logan said, wanting Olivia too. But the fact that she is like a sister to me irks me. I know Olivia wasn't the only child in our pack born on a moonless night, but she is a beautiful girl, and I wonder why her real parents threw her away. As the fourth quarter of the basketball match kicked off, we were scoring against the Red Ballers, a total of 120 points, while they were at just 30 points. Still, their group leader, Enzo Lawrence, whose father is a billionaire and sponsor of the basketball game, didn't want to accept his loss. "Three minutes left! The Yellow Ballers are winning the game!" the supervisor announced, and the referee blew the whistle. Enzo and his Red team players rushed to block the ball, preventing me from passing and scoring. As I turned to pass the ball to Daniel, I jumped and threw the ball into the Red team's basket, scoring three points for my team. It was an eight-minute match. A minute left, and Enzo glared at me as the basketball match continued. They dribbled and passed the ball until Bryan caught it and did a free throw. He scored one point, giving us 124 points against them. The Yellow Ballers wins. As the match came to an end, I set to leave for the hospital to check on Olivia again, before I returned home. However, Bryan and Daniel ran up to shake hands with me. "You did a great job, Mark!" Bryan squealed, as he shook my hand and enveloped me in a hug. "Thanks, Alpha," I replied with a smile, seeing Enzo glaring at me. But I shifted my gaze to Daniel and shook his hand, before the triplets—Carter, Caleb, and Cooper—came forward to hug me too. "Up Yellow Ballers!" we squealed as we posed for group photos, before going to meet our coach. It was a friendly match against the Red Ballers, who refused to accept defeat. "Mark!" Coach Tyler called my attention, his lips curled in a smile as I walked up to meet him. His youngest daughter, Rita, was among the Yellow Ballers cheerleaders. She wore a yellow top, short skirt, and pink boots. She smiled and waved at me as I walked up to meet her father. "You did a great job, Mark, together with the team. We have a basketball game coming up next week against the Bright Star Pack, so you need to get prepared," Coach Tyler said, as he wore a yellow top, black trousers, and black boots. "Alright, Coach. I will be there," I replied with a smile as I set to leave. "That reminds me, Mark. Rita's eighteenth birthday is tomorrow. Are you going to come? I invited the rest of the team, and they promised to be there," Coach Tyler said, as Bryan and Daniel walked up to meet us, together with our team members. "Um, Coach, I have something to take care of at home, so I might not be available to attend Rita's 18th birthday. I am sorry," I replied apologetically, and Rita's smile faded. But Coach Tyler wore a tight expression. "Mark, the party won't start in the morning. It will start in the evening by six p.m., so I am guessing you will be free by then," Coach Tyler said, as it was Tuesday. "Alright, Coach. I will make a chance for it," I replied, wanting to leave, and Rita rushed up to wrap me in a hug. I stiffened as her hands enveloped my waist. "Thank you, Mark!" Rita giggled, her rose scent filling my nostrils, and I smiled and carefully pulled her away from me. "It's fine," I replied bashfully. The young women in the pack cannot stop ogling at me. Rita is a Delta wolf, and she is hoping that I am going to be her mate. Raking my right hand behind my head, I ran it through my short black hair. I smiled and said, "I got to go."
