I was sleepy asf yesterday when I update the last chapter so I didn't get to explain everything. I will do that now.
Let's start with the beginning, Alastair and Aelia both had their different destination they wanted to reach. Alastair wanted his pack while Aelia wanted to reunited with her parents, another reason for her to die other than the curse. If I ignored everything and gave them happy ending, the story would have been thrown off because from the start, it was about curse, them meeting, falling in love, healing each others wound, and then reach their end destination. Amelia was supposed to fill her role and die while Alastair learns to love his pack again.
