Looking out the window, Edric could see the strong settlement gate groaning under the onslaught of force directed at it from behind. The Adharkians were weakening it, trying to get through.
Breathing hard, Edric turned to the guard who stood beside Margaret.
“Quickly,” he commanded. “Gather the entire pack. Shift and stand guard in front of the gate. I’m on my way.”
The guard nodded in acknowledgement and zoomed off. Edric looked out the window one more time. The gate’s defences were straining at a rapid rate. The metals were buckling under pressure.
