By the time Elyssa got to her chamber, she was already hyperventilating. She pushed the door close and squeezed her eyes shut as she rested hopelessly on it. This couldn’t be happening. In her twenty-five years of living, she never knew her biological parents. The caregivers of the orphanage only told her she was wrapped in a white cloth and dropped in a basket by their doorstep with no one around. Now a strange woman just walked in and claimed she was her mother. The resemblance was there; her garnet hair, deep-set eyes, heart-shaped face, her skin which was only a tone lighter than hers. Nevertheless, she wouldn’t believe it. Her real mother would have never left her to go through all that suffering at the orphanage. Her real mother would have never abandoned her for twenty-five years
