CHAPTER 5*CATCHING UP*

||*KIMORA*|| "You are here, when did you come in?" I turned to my uncle with a broad smile on my face while he leans against the kitchen island, his hands resting on the top.  "Say ten minutes ago. I came in and saw aunty busy in the kitchen, thought I would lend a hand." "And you didn't think to come say hi to your favorite uncle first. I didn't think you would come over today." Uncle Wyatt responds while also winking at his wife, who hands me the cake batter to put in the oven, and she rolled her eyes in response to her husband's wink. "You think I wouldn't? I only stayed back yesterday because I wanted to get familiar with the house again, and I had to clean. Of course, I would come see the only family I have left before resuming work on Monday." Uncle Wyatt cranes his neck at my words, and I smiled. I had declined his offer to live with him and his family before I secure an apartment of my choice and he thought I didn't want to visit his home.  He is the only relative I have left, that I know. My knowledge of the family from my mother's side is vague. Mom never talked about them that much.  On different occasions when I ask why none of her siblings visit us like uncle Wyatt does, she would tell me of how her family had planned to marry her off in an arranged marriage to some rich man. They were immigrants in the states and needed a secure link that would guarantee their stay for a lifetime. Mom was that link, but she refused because she was dating my dad at that period. Her family tried to break them apart. First, they didn't want their only daughter marrying a Korean am who is an immigrant, and also poor, but mom got pregnant with me, which soiled their plans.  She moved out of her parents' house to live with dad, and the rest is history. Her family never tried reaching out to her after that and the few times she reached out, they never gave her the avenue to even hear her out.  "You could have just told me and I would've sent the cleaners over. By the way, don't you think resuming on Monday might be too soon. You came in yesterday, why not tour the town or just relax for a week before coming?" I know he meant well, but I've had all the fun and relaxing I needed these past three months. What I need now is something to keep my mind busy. An escape is what I need. "You've been nagging her to come back all these years. Now that she is back, you want her to take a week to relax? Didn't she go to Seoul for three months just for that purpose?" Uncle Wyatt's wife chipped in, as she walked out of the kitchen to set the table and I followed her with some dishes we had prepared.  "I know, but going back to the house must have brought back memories for you, I just want you to breathe before occupying yourself with the workload of being a CEO."  I smiled at my uncle, pulling out a chair to sit. "I understand your worry uncle, but I am fine, this is what I should do, I've been running from my duties while leaving you with the burden. Although being back in that house brought back unfavourable memories, there are also good memories."  Uncle Wyatt, stared at me for some seconds, before nodding his head in approval. "No problem, I would introduce you to the workers on Monday, my retirement doesn't mean I am indisposed to work. So whenever you need me for anything, or advice on contracts, just call me, okay?"  "I will, uncle, relax your mind. Where are my siblings?" I asking, noting how they didn't join us at the table. "The twins are back in school, they are in their last year of college. Micheal is in the boarding school." Uncle Wyatt answered, and I nod as we all settled on our chairs, ready the eat. "I forgot things like that exists, can't believe it's been five years since I completed my Phd. How time flies." I mumbled, serving a desired amount of rice on my plate, and Aunt Becca smiled. "Wait until your cousins come back home for holidays, you'll be surprised how fast they grow, even Micheal is almost the same height with his father." Aunt Becca said with glee, and I smiled. "You exaggerate your words, Micheal isn't that tall." Uncle Wyatt countered his wife, and she rolled her eyes at him. "Do not listen to him, he wasn't here when I sent him off to school to see how tall Micheal has grown." Aunt Becca defended with pursed lips and I nod. "Ah, I see, where were you, uncle?" "That was when I had to go to Paris for the new branch, opening and you know I stayed three months to make sure the new branch manager was a good one."   Uncle Wyatt explained, and my memory picked on when he had called me to go instead, so I could use that as my first official duty for the company. Which I declined because I was stupidly in love with the ass-hole who broke my heart in the end..  "I should've gone instead, but I was stupidly in-love. Anyway, Aunt Becca, I guess you can blame me for that, but since I'm back now, you both get to spend more time together. Probably go on honeymoon, or throw an updated wedding party." I teased, and Aunt Becca rolled her eyes at me as she laughed.  "Maybe a vacation, besides what we'll do on honeymoon, we can still do it here at home, right, love?" She said, turning to her husband, who looked quite embarrassed.  "I don't know what you're talking about." My uncle answered, stuffing his mouth with food.  "Don't mind him, he get's all embarrassed every time when people talk about s*x, yet he's been doing the dirty for years." Aunt Becca teased, and I laughed.  "Well, at least that means he doesn't cheat on you, right?"  "I'll chop off his balls if he tries that, but I trust my husband." Aunt Becca answered, and my uncle groaned.  "Not in front of the food okay, I'm trying to eat. Stop talking about s*x parts." Uncle Wyatt complained, and I laughed as they bickered back and forth.  This is what I wish for, a love as simple yet beautiful as theirs, but I never get what I want. I always end up choosing the wrong guys, the cheaters and gold diggers. It really won't hurt me that much if I was a bad person, but I've wronged no one in my life or try to take what doesn't belong to me, so why do I keep getting served half-baked dishonest men.  It's been months, yet the pain is still there, even if I am over that asshole, I can't deny that the memories don't hurt, they do, then again I have to move on but this time I am done with men playing me for my money. _____________ __________________ "Aren't you staying the night?" Aunt Becca asked, as I picked up my coat from the couch and my handbag. "I'll love to, but I still got a lot to do, and I have to go over the files Uncle sent. You know I'm assuming office on Monday and it won't be nice if I have no clue what I am getting into. But I'll make time later and spend the weekend here probably when the kids her around." I answered as she and her husband saw me off to the door.  I kissed their cheek goodbye before stepping out of the house, and I walked to my car getting in, while I place my handbag on the backseat. I drove out of the open gate, waving at the gateman before pulling up my windows.  It was getting late and I need to stop by the grocery store, but years after being out of town, I became so unfamiliar with the streets and how to navigate through the city. Thank God for GPS, I would've lost my way to my uncle's house today.  I scrolled through my phone, in search of address for any shopping mall along the way back home so I can stop and get some things for myself until the house help resumes work on Monday. Then I'll give her a list of everything I need stocked in the kitchen and pantry.  I found one along the streets that leads back home and I input the address in the Gps, as I followed the map I realised it was on the average side of the city. I don't mind though because going into the main city would only stress me out, traffic jam and the evening rush.  I was glad my parents never lived in the main estates in the city, although we have properties there which are all on lease, Dad bought a private land a little away from the city noise and life. I remember as I child I never liked, it because I felt separated from the rest of the world, living in such big mansion alone, no neighbours. Dad wanted to make in a mini estate of just ten residency but then the other buildings weren't completed and I hated stepping of the house, with no kids to play with.  However, as an adult now, I understand why they lived secluded, humans are nosy and noisy being rich and all they would've tried to get involved in our business every chance they get. I parked my car in the parking area in front of the grocery store and I stepped out, fetched my card out of my bag before locking the door. As I walked in, I noticed the buzz of people going about their shopping and I moved along the aisle looking for snacks and some other items, which seemed impossible to find as the place is big.  "Hi, please excuse me." I walked over to a guy standing at the end of the row I was, with a face cap and glasses on. With the way he dressed, I could tell he worked here.  "I need to get sanitaries and beverages but I can't seem to find the aisle for that, do you mind showing me the way?" I asked, and he turned, looking behind him, then he turned his gaze to me while pushing his glasses up his nose.  "Are you taking to me?" He questioned, and I frowned.  "Is there anyone else here besides both of us?" I fired back. "Uh, sorry I can't help you, you should ask someone else." He responded, putting back the item he held in hand walking away and I pulled him back by his shirt.  "Is this how, all other staffs treat their customers here? I am new here and I simply asked you to point me towards where I can get the things I want, instead you try to walk away?" I questioned, holding back the snap on my tongue.  The guy looked me over, and his eyes travelled to where I held him by the shirt.  "Don't you think it's rude that you're pulling a stranger by their shirt? I get that you're a lady, but you cannot just touch me or pull my shirt because you want to. If I did the same to you, wouldn't it be called s****l harassment? So please let go, and stop being rude..." He said and my eyes widen. "Me rude? s****l harassment? Did you just threaten to harass me? Wow, is this how women are treated by male workers in this store? All you just have to is point me in the right direction instead of giving me this nasty attitude, At least do your job right." I snapped at him and he sighed, pushing his nose up.  "I don't...."  "What's going on here?" A woman walked up to us, asking. "Please do you work here?" I asked her and she nods. "Yes, I'm the manager here, is everything alright?" She questioned, and I smiled glaring at the guy, he is so done fun. Men are their stupid ego, he could've just showed me where to get what I want instead of giving me attitude. "Thank you, this is my first time in this store and I am having a hard time finding the right aisle for the items I want. Now, I approached your worker here, asking him for directions which he declined, threatened to harass me after giving me attitude." I explained, glaring at the guy who looked done with everything. The manager turned to her side, scanning the guy up and down before turning to me with a smile. "I apologise for the inconvenience miss, I'll take you to the right aisle. Just tell me what you want, but this young man is not an employee here, there must've been a mistake with the way he's dressed." The manager answered and my face fell.  I turned to the guy who let out a tired sigh, before pushing his glasses up his nose and he raised his eyes.  "Madam, can you please let go of my shirt now? I have places to be." He said in a bored tone, before pulling my hand off his shirt and he pivot, walking away. Did he just call me madam in a mocking tone? The rude bastard, does he know who I am?  "You can tell me what you want." The manager said, and I blinked, turning to her. As we walked away from the aisle, I turned to look at the retreating figure of the guy and I scowled. He could've at least told me he doesn't work here, instead of making me waste my time and breath on him.
