SNIFFLING LITTLE GOLD-DIGGER

LEILANI I was dumbfounded. I stared at my mate in absolute shock as he began scribbling on the chequebook in front of him. “You want to pay me?” I asked, but got no response from him. “You want to pay me to get rid of your child,” I muttered in disbelief, unable to process what I’d just heard, and what was unravelling before my eyes. The Alpha king paused, his jaw ticking as he raised his gaze. “My child? Who the hell knows how many men you slept with?” he scoffed. “It was one man. One Alpha, and that Alpha was you. Every time you came to me. I wouldn’t mistake the scent of bergamot, vanilla and the hint of burnt iris for anyone else. It was you," I retorted. His expression shifted from its usual irritation to confusion for a minute as he stared at me. “Burnt iris?” He muttered, almost like a question. “Yes, do you not know what your pheromones smell like?” He eyed me for a few seconds before shaking his head. “You only know that because of the mate bond.” “So you would only acknowledge the bond when it suits you. Like right now, to deny my claim about knowing the scent of the Alpha that kept coming to me. The alpha took my virginity hours after he kicked me down in front of an audience and called me filthy. But you didn’t think I was filthy when you came to me in that guestroom and told me to present to my Alpha. You didn’t think I was filthy when you said I smelt good. You didn’t remember I was filthy and a lowly omega when you told me I only belonged to you.” Tears began welling in my eyes again as I spoke, remembering that evening. The first time with him, the first time my heart had sparked with hope, thinking it was the start of something new for me. “I guess I should’ve known better than to trust an Alpha who would take the virginity of a young omega, then leave her to deal with the aftermath of her first time on her own. What did I expect from an Alpha who only came to me when he needed a hole to put his c0ck?" A sharp pain embedded in my heart as I spoke, and indifference shone in his eyes. He shrugged as I finished talking. “Well, congratulations on the sob story. At the very least, you know that you were nothing more than a hole for a c0ck looking to get wet. Crazy, you still convince yourself that c0ck was mine, but I’d first f**k a hole in the wall before ever thinking of dipping my c0ck in your hole,” he responded, voice dripping with disdain and sarcasm. I opened my mouth to reply, but I could barely form the right words. So he truly intended to pretend like he never touched me. “You are cruel.” I ended up whispering, mostly to myself, because I needed to remind myself of his cruelty. Why was he so cruel to me? Was it because I was omega or an orphan, or did he hate me for who I was? “How much do you want?” He repeated, as if I hadn’t heard him when he asked the same question earlier. “Do you realize what you’re doing? What you’re about to do…” I couldn’t even bear to think that he was actually serious about me getting rid of his pup. Why would any Alpha do that? “You’re going to pay me to get rid of your pup? Your heir?” He sighed. “That child isn’t mine. I am paying you to get rid of the bastard you’re carrying so you can stop being a nuisance.” “Do you know what that would do to me? Do you know the trauma you’d be inflicting on me, a first-time omega mother getting rid of her pup? Do you have any idea the emotional and psychological torment you want me to put my…” “You’re wasting my time.” He interrupted with a wave of his hand like I was nothing but a nuisance. I guess in retrospect, I was a nuisance to him. I watched as he finished writing whatever he wanted, tore the cheque and then pushed it my way. I cast a glance at him, foolishly hoping that this was a joke. My mate wouldn’t be so cruel, would he? The moon goddess wouldn’t be so cruel as to give me such an inhumane Alpha as a mate. “Pick it up. I have better things on my schedule.” I pitched forward, grabbing the cheque from his desk. My eyes scanned over the written amount. So all this time, he knew my name? “Do you truly mean this? This is what you want?” I asked because I guess I was stupid enough to hope. “You have two options,” he began. “Your first choice is very easy. Take the money I’m offering and get rid of that pup. You can do whatever you want with what’s left and then get out of my kingdom. Or…” He paused, as if waiting for his words to sink in. “You refuse, and I make your life a living hell before getting rid of you myself. So, what’s your pick?” Every word he uttered struck a chord in my chest, and my heart pinched with every show of indifference on his face. He really didn’t care. He never actually cared about me. I stared at him, my heart cinching in pain with every second that passed. All those moments in his arms, all his sweet nothings, all the moments of passion and intimacy, it was all for nothing. Was it a fault of mine that I thought I could keep him interested if I kept opening my legs for him? Would any of this have gone differently if I had refused him after that first time? Would I be here, getting ridiculed and being told to my face that I was nothing more than a nuisance in his presence? My gaze shifted back to the amount he scribbled on the cheque, and I swallowed back the cry bubbling at the back of my throat. My tears meant nothing to him. He has already proved that. I wondered if my parents were still alive, would he have treated me this way? Placing the cheque carefully back on his desk, I pushed it towards him. His face crinkled. “You’re rejecting my offer?” he asked as his eyes narrowed. “I have endured all of your insults, and I accept that it was foolish of me to think I could find honour with a man like you. You’ve used me quite a few times already, and I’d be more than just a fool if I let you call me a worthless thing with such a flimsy amount.” His frown deepened as I spoke. “You want me to kill your pup and to vanish like I never existed. Fine, but you’re going to have to do better than that if you want me gone for good. I am worth more than a few thousand. So do better.” He perused me with his eyes from my head downwards, snorted, and then shook his head. “I knew all along that you were nothing more than a sniffling little gold digger,” he sneered. I clamped down on the pain that climbed up my throat at his insults. “Well, it’s a good thing you have enough gold for me to dig. Adding a few more zeros isn’t going to make you poor. I bet it won’t even put a dent in your billions. You want to throw money at me, do it well enough so we both don’t have to deal with each other again,” I bit back in annoyance, crossing my arms over my chest to hide how much I just wanted to curl up in pain and cry.
