I did not want to let go of Kalai’s hand but I had to. I could tell that the palace maid was going to do something real bad if I kept my beloved with me. After all, Kalai did come here to get her brother back. I shouldn’t hinder her from doing it because I promised to help her. I should support her—even if this was all without surety. We had no idea if her brother was still alive.
As soon as Kalai was taken away by the malicious-looking maid, the White Dragon guards attacked us with their swords, spears and magic. I heard Kalai’s voice, but it was cut off as the transference spell carried her away. My voice calling out her name thundered in the spacious foyer when Kalai was gone.
