Chapter 44: Joanna Still Went to Work

1346 Words
Joanna lay in the bed, which was full of the smell Brian had. She smiled and felt that he was with her. At midnight, she seemed to be trapped in a nightmare. The cold sweat on her face wet her hair, and she swung her body in pain, crying and begging in a low voice, "No, please don't..."   No matter how she cried or pleaded, it was helpless, they were still doing this to her mercilessly. Brian got up in the middle of the night for some water, and he heard the sound in the room. He opened the door and found that the woman on the bed was crying with tears full of her face and kept saying, "It hurts, it hurts..."   Brian couldn't bear to look at her like this, and he walked over and slept next to her. He hugged her, patted her back gently, and then he put her hair up from her face that was wet from tears. He had had Danny to check her background before, and he only knew that Joanna was not doing very well in the Devine family. He didn't have the information about how bad it was exactly, but he could tell that she had a harder time there than he thought due to her current situation.   Gradually, she felt a warm embrace, and her body was no longer so tense and stiff, and she stopped crying. Brian wiped the tears and kissed her gently on the forehead. After Joanna was completely quiet and fell asleep again, he said softly, "Joanna, come by my side." Joanna happened to come into his arms after he finished speaking. He smiled, "You agreed, then you need to keep your promise." Brian looked at her and he also fell asleep later.   On the next day, Joanna was going to turn over, but there was a hand on her waist stopped her. She tried it again, but she just couldn't turn over. Joanna finally realized that something was wrong and opened her sleepy eyes. What surprised her was that she saw Brian's handsome face in front of her.   What happened? How could she sleep in the bed with Brian? She was so shocked and she tried to stay away, but Brian pulled her back to him. He buried his head in her neck like a child, "Sleep a while longer with me."   Joanna struggled again and again, but she couldn't get rid of Brian. Brian was awakened by her, opened his eyes, and said in a low voice, "Come on, don't move." At this time, Joanna felt that something was not right, and she flushed.   "If you move again, don't blame me for doing something to you," Brian said. Joanna instantly froze with his words. It was not comfortable for Brian to control himself, but he was amused by her posture that was frozen in an instant. He let go of her, got up from the bed, and walked to the bathroom.   Joanna quickly changed into her clothes and went downstairs at the time he went out. In the bathroom, Brian had a shower with cold water over and over again, and it took him a long while to keep the peace.   Joanna went to the kitchen, opened the refrigerator, and found that there were a lot of fresh food materials. She was a little surprised, but she thought that it must be Brian had someone bought them this morning. She chose some casually and made breakfast.   Brian came downstairs and saw that she was busy in the kitchen, and he approached her. Joanna heard him and turned around. Brian approached her step by step, leaving her no place to go, and then he suddenly hugged her without saying a word.   After a long while, Joanna pushed him with a flushed face, "Well, Brian..." "Yes?" "I'm going to be late for work." She said. Brian looked at her in surprise, "Still going to work today?" Joanna nodded. If she didn't go to work, Mike and Robin might have reasons to fire her, and at this time, she had her intention to go to work.   "Do you know how many people are waiting for you in Devine's now?" Brian was concerned about her and said. Joanna answered peacefully, "I know." Brian didn't know what was in her mind, but he didn't agree with her when he thought that she was going to work and there were so many reporters waiting for her. He said, "Just stay at home."   Joanna knew that he was caring about her, and it was the first time for her to comfort him, "This time, I won't let myself be in trouble." Brian answered, "It's not helping. Don't go." As soon as Brian thought of the people who surrounded her last night and even tried to hit her with the camera, he was worried.   "I promise you, I won't get hurt." "I don't see how it works. Listen to me and stay at home." Joanna insisted, and Brian finally agreed to let her go to work under the condition that he would go pick her up after work.   In the Devine's, Joanna came to work as usual, and people in the company were shocked. They thought that she might not come to the company for days with what was happening right now. However, they didn't understand why was she still coming to work. She might be hurt or even destroyed by Sarah's fans if they got any chance.   Joanna was doing everything as usual, and she had her daily life as before, so did her work. Only she would order take-out instead of grabbing some food for lunch by herself. Even so, there were still some people forcibly interviewed her while she was picking up her food, which made her upset.   Robin was completely disappointed with Joanna, and he never contacted her or did anything for her at all since what happened to her. Sarah read the comments that scolded Joanna every day and laughed while watching. She enjoyed it a lot, and she couldn't help sharing it with Susan, "Mom, look at these comments, I wonder if Joanna will cry if she sees them."   Susan touched her daughter's hair gently and smiled. It was just that Susan and Sarah thought differently. Before Julie and Austin were found, Susan couldn't rest assured, but now they just couldn't find Julie and Austin anywhere. Susan had searched every hospital, including the Devine's subsidiary hospital, and there was no trace of them. It stood to reason that Sarah had hurt them quite seriously that day, so they should still be in hospital now.   Besides, she had planned to threaten Julie and Austin with their family, but she found that both of them were orphans. They didn't even have relatives. Susan couldn't find them in all the hospitals, so she asked Mike to have someone try the communities and hotels, and she told Mike that he had to get it done. As a result, they didn't find Julie and Austin, not even the person who posted the original video online.   In the Devine's, Joanna had just arrived at the parking lot after work, and she was still in the elevator and saw Brian leaning on a pillar not far away. Brian saw her coming and walked over, reaching out to her, "Come here." Joanna froze for a second, then slowly took his hand. The moment Brian held her hand, he held her in his arms.   "That's nice," Brian said and rubbed her head gently. He was surprised that she just took his hand like this today. "Huh?" Joanna didn't know what he really meant. Brian put his hand around her waist without answering her. He asked, "Go home to have dinner, or eat outside?"   If she wanted to eat outside, he would book the whole restaurant for her, so that they didn't need to worry about those reporters. "Go home?" Joanna was thinking about his words and she felt that it was weird to say "go home". She asked, "How about you?"
