The Girlfriend Melissa

Fiero’s blood ran cold when he heard what Gobert said. His eyes moved from his friend to the blonde girl beside him.

‘A lone vampire,’

Cassius said.

Fiero inhaled and he was certain the scent of blood came from Gobert’s girlfriend. It wasn’t a scent that made it seem like the blood was coming from her, more likely, the scent was on her.

She may look clean, and immaculate when you look at her as she is wearing a black coat in pristine condition. To humans, she is just a normal beautiful lady in a beautiful black coat, but to Fiero, she is a vampire who is fresh from feeding.

‘Not only that she is a loner, she is also a newborn. Is she feeding off of him?’

What Cassius said raised alarms in Fiero’s head.

‘Do you think she has a sire? Or is she all alone?’ Fiero asked his Lycan.

‘That I am not sure. I can’t see through other’s minds,’ Cassius answered.

Fiero gritted his teeth. Then he took a deep breath and stood up as he decided that he needed to know everything about the girl and find out for himself if his friend was safe with her or not.

Then he smiled as he extended his hand towards Gobert’s girlfriend.

“Nice to meet you, my name is –“

“You must be Fiero!” the girl Melissa chirped as she shook Fiero’s hand.

“Uh, yeah,”

“Gobert mentioned you a lot of times since we started dating. It’s really nice to finally meet you,” Melissa said and Fiero gave her a curt nod.

“Likewise,”

Fiero was adamant about protecting his friend, but then, he saw that Gobert was beaming as he looked at his girlfriend, he was genuinely happy. Fiero bite back and smiled at them.

“I should head back to the hotel. I feel like the need to sleep now,” Fiero said and Melissa frowned.

“We are going to have dinner, why don’t you join us?” Melissa blurted.

Fiero narrowed his eyes on her for a second before he forcibly smiled at her.

“Thank you, but at this moment I choose sleep over food,” he told her and Melissa looked disappointed.

“But I was looking forward to meeting you so I can thank you for what –“

“We can meet some other time. For now, enjoy your dinner together,” Fiero told her and then he looked at Gobert.

“Is it okay with you if I ask your girlfriend for a coffee or lunch? I will just tell her all the embarrassing things you did during college and maybe interrogate her if she loves you really,”

Fiero said and Gobert gawked at him. With his reaction, Fiero let out a humorless chuckle while Melissa was looking at Gobert.

“I also want to know more about you in his perspective, so, can I meet him? You will let me meet him, right?” she asked, but then Fiero noticed that she is compelling him.

Gobert looked at her and then he smiled before nodding.

“Of course. I trust you both,” he told her and Melissa grinned.

Then Melissa turned towards Fiero.

“It’s set then. Let’s have lunch tomorrow and interview each other regarding Gobert. Where are you staying? So, I can go to you,”

She asked.

‘I don’t understand what she wants from you, but meet her on neutral ground. Just in case,’ Cassius told Fiero who immediately agreed.

He looked at Melissa and smiled at her.

“How about the diner right around the corner? I was craving for their milkshake,” Fiero said and Melissa smiled, agreeing to his suggestion.

‘Lies. Their milkshake sucks,’ Cassius grumbled.

Ignoring his Lycan, he smiled at the couple.

“I will not keep you from your dinner, I will see you tomorrow,” Fiero told them and quickly left the office.

After leaving the office, Fiero went straight to his hotel room which was in the New Castle Hotel, one of his family’s smaller hotels. He took a shower and changed into a pair of black sweat pants and shirt.

‘Where do you plan on going?’

Lysandra’s voice echoed around the room as their phone call was on speaker. As soon as Fiero came to his hotel room, he messaged his twin sister about what he found out. Hungry for information, Lysandra called him.

“I will see Gobert and his girlfriend, Melissa,” he replied.

‘And why would you do such a thing?’

His sister asked.

“Well, turns out I cannot just stay here and let my best friend just date some random vampire girl. Who knows what she really wants from him and I want to know which coven she came from,” Fiero replied.

‘So, you will be spying on them? How are you going to find them anyway?’ Lysandra asked.

“I planted my shadow on Gobert. I will be alerted if her is in danger and I can track his location,” Fiero said and then there was a long pause from the other line.

‘You know Fiero… you either sound like a worried mom or a jealous lover,’

Lysandra said.

Fiero looked in the direction of the phone and crossed his arms over his chest.

“If you weren’t my twin sister, I would shave your head,” he spoke and then Lysandra’s laugh resonated through the call.

When her laugh did not stop, Fiero gritted his teeth and hung up the call. Then he wore his black hoodie as the shadows around him started moving like they were dancing. It is telling him where Gibert and his girlfriend at.

He then took a deep breath and his eyes turned red before shadows circled around him until he disappeared with the shadows. Fiero traveled through the shadows until he reappeared on top of an apartment building. In front of the building he was on was a restaurant that he knew was frequented by vampires, and from the establishment’s window, he could see Gobert and Melissa eating. The two of them looked like they were having a great time together, momentarily making Fiero waver, and think if he is doing the right thing.

But then, he noticed that Melissa wasn’t really eating her food and was just drinking wine, only it wasn’t wine but blood. The only reason Gobert didn’t notice was because she was keeping him occupied by their conversation or that she compelled him like how she compelled him earlier.

Fiero continued to watch the couple on top of the building. When they were finally done with their dinner, the couple walked out of the restaurant hand in hand, like those couples who happily walked out of a restaurant after a date.

Something didn’t sit well with Fiero at that moment, especially after he noticed that despite Melissa’s smiles, her voice held fear and worry.

‘I don’t feel good about this,’ Cassius said.

“Me too,” he replied.

Then he continued to follow the couple as they walked the sidewalk by going from the top of one building to another. But when he followed them when they turned right at the corner of the street, the whole street was dark that the ominous feeling grew.

Then he saw several men, armed with daggers, bats and gun came out of the dark alleys and they are all making their way to block Gobert and Melissa.

‘They are not all human,’ Cassius said.

Fiero looked closely and sniffed the air. He then realized that some of the armed men were vampires. Worried about what could happen, he pulled his hood down and jumped off the building he was on.

On his way down, he caught a few parts of what the armed men said.

“You can’t run from us, Melissa,”
