I woke up to the sound of birds chirping outside the window of the luxurious bedroom that Kael had assigned to me. As I stretched and got out of bed, I realized that I had not left the mansion since Kael brought me here. I made my way to the door and found that it was locked.
"Kael?" I called out, hoping that he would hear me. But there was no response. I tried the door again, but it remained locked. I turned around and saw a tray of food on the dresser. Kael must have asked Stella to bring me breakfast again.
As I sat down to eat, I wondered where Kael could have gone. He had not told me anything before he left yesterday. Did he have some urgent business to attend to? Or did he simply need some time alone?
