On the walk home, I thought about everything that had happened. All the terrible things I had said to Candace. Those most hurtful words that must have broken her heart. I had done nothing to earn her love, yet she stuck around anyway, hoping I would change my mind.
Now, Candace was hurting in a different way, and I had to somehow make it all up to her. Starting with our mate bond. It wasn’t strong, but it was still there, and it could be strengthened with one simple action.
Of course, I couldn’t just mark her. After everything I put her through, I needed to make this the most special moment of her life. One she would be able to look back on fondly instead of with regrets. For that reason, the marking would have to wait.
