" I stand there watching Deni leave the office to go and pack his clothes. Doubt bubbles in my stomach rising up to my throat choke me. I turn away from the door before I run after him and tell him to stay. He has to leave. There's no way I can do what I have to do if he's here. The fear of losing him will make me unfocused and afraid and I can't afford that.

I pull out my phone to call my brother Nick. I told him that we might go to the cave soon. I'm thinking today's the day. Right after Deni leaves, we're going to do this.
I dial his number and wait for the phone to connect. He answers after a few minutes of it ringing.
