❀ Amy ❀ I approached Lisa’s office, and while I was nervous to talk to her, I was also running on too much coffee and very little sleep. Karen’s story had haunted me all night. Her devastation, her uncertainty, the way her voice broke when she talked about Lucas, it all sat heavy on my chest. I knocked on the door, and Lisa looked up from her desk. Her sharp eyes immediately caught the tension on my face. “Come in. Talk to me,” she said, and I closed the door behind me before I sank into the chair across from her.
