I wasn’t looking forward to going back to the Blue Moon pack. My brother was the Alpha now, and I knew that he was going to be a prick about it. He was going to rub it in that he was right all along. I had no other choice, though. I had never thought that this would happen, so I hadn't thought to make myself a little nest egg just in case. There was no way in hell that I was going to stay at the Blood Moon pack and call that red-headed whiny b***h my Luna. Besides, seeing them together all the time would be far too painful. At least if I went home then I might be able to work through my pain and emotions. I pulled over and pulled my phone out of my pocket. I saw that I had three missed calls from Michael and a text. “You didn’t have to leave. You could have at least warned me,” it read. “Yes I did need to leave. There is no longer any place for me there,” I replied. Then pulled up my mother’s number. My parents still lived at the Blue Moon pack. I decided that I would rather explain the situation to her than to David.
It wasn’t that long of a drive, just about two hours. I hadn’t even been back for a visit since leaving though. My parents had decided that it would be better for them to come and visit us at the Blood Moon pack instead. I had never really bothered to question why. I had always just assumed that it was because the Blood Moon pack was bigger and richer. The accommodations for visiting Alpha’s were superior to the ones at the Blue Moon pack. I was feeling a little nervous about my return after being away for so long. “You are still the daughter of the former Alpha and Luna. The sister of the current Alpha. You are still an Alpha blooded wolf and deserve to be respected as such,” Lilly said. She didn’t sound entirely confident in her words, though. I nodded. She was right, but I had never exactly been respected in the Blue Moon pack. I wasn’t hated either, just mostly treated like I was invisible or an inconvenience. “Things are different now. You are all grown up and have been living as the Luna of one of the biggest packs in the region,” Lilly tried to reassure me. I sighed. Hopefully, she was right.
As I pulled up to the big steel gates of the Blue Moon pack, I waved to the guard. It was the third son of my father’s delta called Charlie, whom I had grown up with. We had been good friends. He looked pleased to see me. “Dawn, your mum told me that we were expecting you,” he said cheerily as I entered the grounds. I tried to give him a smile back, but I knew that it looked half-hearted. “Everything okay?” he asked, looking concerned. “Not really,” I replied. “I will tell you about it later. It would be good to catch up," I added before he could ask anything else. Charlie nodded and waved me on.
I reached the pack house and saw my parents waiting outside to greet me. I got out of the car, and my mother hugged me limply. “I am sorry that you are going through this. I have explained the situation to your brother already. He is waiting in his office for you,” she said. I nodded and thanked her, moving towards the back of the cat to grab my cases. “Don’t worry about that,” my father said, closing the boot. “Your brother is waiting,” he added. I looked at them slightly confused but nodded and followed them inside. I made my way to the Alpha’s office with my parents in tow and knocked on the closed door. “Enter!” I heard my brother’s voice boom from inside. I pushed open the door and saw that he had completely redecorated it after taking over from our father. It used to be warm and cosy, wood panelled with soft green furnishings. Now, it was the opposite. It was all chrome and black. It felt cold and impersonal. I suppressed a giggle as I thought that it was perfect for David.
“Sit,” he commanded, pointing at the black leather and chrome chair in front of his big chrome desk. I did as he said. “Mum has filled me in on your situation. I understand that exactly what i predicted would happen has, in fact, happened,” he stated matter of factly. I nodded. He smirked a little, clearly feeling proud of himself. “Well obviously you are welcome to come back and live here. You are family, after all. However, you are no longer the Alpha’s daughter. As such, you will not enjoy the perks of living as one. You will be expected to work,” he said. I nodded gratefully. “Of course, David. Thank you,” I replied. He bristled a little. “I am your Alpha now, and you will address me as such in formal situations,” he said. I thought that he was being a little pathetic, but I wasn't in a position to argue, so I agreed and apologised. He had me take my vows, swearing my loyalty to the Blue Moon pack and accepting him as my Alpha there and then. Once I was done, he said that he would have me shown to my new home.
David’s beta was Luke James. The son of my father’s beta. He and David had been best friends their whole lives, raised to run the pack together. He was as much of a sanctimonious ass as my brother. He got into the driver’s seat of my car and motioned for me to hurry up and get into the passenger's side. I was confused. He was meant to be taking me to where I would be living. Where had David put me that we needed to drive there? I climbed in and shut the door. “Where exactly am I going to be staying?” I asked him cautiously. He grinned at me. “It was pretty short notice, and all we have available at the moment are the cabins,” he told me happily. I looked down at my hands and said nothing. I had known that I wouldn't get a warm welcome from David, but I hadn’t expected to be put in one of the cabins.
We drove through the pack. Past the rows of houses and cottages. Past the school and the playground. Past the hospital. The cabins were in the farthest part of the pack grounds before you reached nothing but trees. There was a small lake between them and the rest of the pack. When I had lived here, they were mainly used for the omegas who travelled with visiting Alpha families. We pulled up in front of them, and I saw that one had its lights on. “I take it that that’s my new home?” I asked. Luke shook his head. “Nah, you’ve got your pick of the others, though,” he said. I raised an eyebrow, “So who lives there?” I asked him. “Your new neighbour, some she-wolf who came here from the Waning Moon pack looking for a new pack,” he said. I was intrigued. Perhaps we could become friends. After all, it seemed as though neither of us were truly wanted here.
