CHAPTER 11:PUNISHMENT.

1164 Words
I had decided to head straight up to bed. Today had ended up being pretty shitty. All I wanted to do right now was go to sleep before anything else could happen. I was halfway up the stairs when there was a knock on my door. Sighing, I turned around and went to open it. Charlie stood there, grinning at me. "I thought we were meeting up by the pack house," he said. I wasn't sure what to say. "I decided to just head home. I had all the curtains," I said. It wasn't really n explanation, but he didn't see any reason to push it. "No worries. Anyway, here is the food Mrs Bury sent. I have to run, busy night ahead of me," he said, smiling happily. I thanked him and took the bag. As he headed off waving back at me, I couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed. I put the food in the fridge and headed for the stairs once more. Another knock at the door made me growl. I just wanted to go to bed. Was that really so much to ask? I opened the door, expecting it to be Charlie having forgotten something. To my surprise, I saw my brother instead. "Da.... I mean Alpha!" I exclaimed in surprised, hoping that I had caught myself in time. "Are you going to invite me in?" he asked. I nodded and stepped aside. "Of course. Please come in," I said. He smirked as he walked past me and looked around the cabin. "It looks like you fit right in down here," he sneered. I knew that he meant it as an insult, but I actually liked my little cabin. "Yes, I think that I do. Thank you, Alpha," I replied. He seemed annoyed that I didn't hate living here. "I came discuss the incident in the kitchen today," he said, his tone becoming cold and firm. "Incident?" I asked. He scoffed, "Your little stunt with the sauce!" he explained slowly as though I was an i***t. "There was no stunt. The sauce was spilt, and I helped to clean it up," I told him. I didn't see the point in divulging the details of how it was spilt. Not while he was f*****g the b***h who had done it. David gave an exasperated sigh. "Look, Dawn, I can't be seen to be letting you get away with stupid s**t like that just because you're my sister. We both know that you deliberatley made Louisa spill the sauce. I'm not sure what you have against her, but it ends now. Out of respect for our parents, rather than flogging you with silver or sending you to the dungeons, I will let you off with double shifts for a week. Any further crap and I will not take it easy on you. Do you understand?" he asked. I nodded, knowing that it was pointless telling him the truth. He didn't care, and from what I had heard earlier, he was in on it. "Do you understand?" he repeated. "Yes, Alpha," I said. He smiled, pleased with himself. "Good, then I will leave you to it," he said. I closed the door behind him and headed for the sofa instead. How the f**k was I going to get the ball room done in time now that I was working double shifts in the kitchen? I woke, still on the sofa the next morning. I had given up trying to go to bed. I was still feeling groggy, I hadn't slept well. I had been having dreams of being flogged in front of the whole pack while Michael, Ally, Louisa, and Charlie stood there laughing as they watched. It was horrible. Honestly, I was glad to be awake. I quickly washed and changed and grabbed the bag of curtains on the way out. The walk to the pack house didn't seem quite as enjoyable today. I stopped off at the ballroom on the way to drop off the curtains. I looked around at all the work that still needed to be done. I don't think that it will be ready for the snow ball. I dread to think what my brother will do to punish me if it's not. Arriving at the kitchen, I saw Mrs Bury glance at me apologetically from across the room. I noticed that there was no Louisa and thought that at least I wouldn't have to deal with her this morning. The kitchen was a buzz of activity. Everyone was busy getting breakfast ready. It was a few hours before I was able to sit down with a coffee and just breathe for a moment. "Hey, Kiddo. Are you okay? You look tired today," Mrs Bury said, handing me a plate with a warm buttered croissant. I was going to turn it down, but it smelt too good. I took a bite, and the flaky deliciousness soothed me for a moment. "I didn't sleep very well. I will be fine," I told her, taking another bite. "I'm sorry for what happened with Louisa. It's not even slightly fair," she said. I looked a little confused as I chewed. Did she mean me having to work to double shifts because of her, or that Charlie had gone off with her? "It's not fair that you have to work double shifts while she gets the week off with full pay," she said. I froze with the croissant halfway to my mouth for a moment. My brother really is a total prick. Charlie came looking for me halfway through my second shift. I was so tired by then and really wasn't in the mood to hear about his night with the b***h who had put me in this position. "Hey Dawn, I thought that you would be finished by now. I've been down to the ball room and done some more of the cleaning.," he said. "I'm working double shifts all week. I don't know how much time I will be able to spend on the ball room," I said, keeping my answers short and to the point. "What? Why are you on doubles? Is it a money thing?" he asked. "I'm not doing it by choice!" I snapped. "Well, can't Mrs B do something about it? She is in charge of the rota," he suggested. I stopped sweeping the floor and looked up at him. His green eyes completley clueless. "No Charlie, Mrs B can't do anything about it beause the order came from the top. Now if you don't mind i've got another three hours of my shift left," I began walking away from him as I muttered, "Thanks to your girlfriend," He called after me but Mrs Bury shooed him out of the kitchen. "Go on now. She has enough on her plate trying to get that bloody ball room done," she told him, leading him out of the door. I was still so grateful for Mrs Bury.
