Jasmin's P.O.V
We stopped at what looked like some kind of racing club. Banners with motorcycles blew in the slight breeze at the door to the place and above the door was a sign, New York Racing Club. I spotted that man that looked like Tanner getting off his bike, removing his helmet and walked to the entrance of the club.
Where he was met by a woman. I couldn't see her face. Her back was turned towards me, but it seemed like they knew each other. Was this what he was hiding? Was I right? Was Tanner regaining his memory back and hiding his true identity? The two of them entered the club and I wanted to be entirely sure about what my next step would be.
Do I barge in there and demand to know what the hell was going on or do I remain hidden and try to figure out as much as I could before confronting him?
"Ma'am, do I keep the meter running or do you plan to get out?"
The cab driver asked me.
"Keep it running, I'll be back soon. Do not leave, okay."
He gave me a curd nod and I hopped out of the cab.
Halfway to the door, another man came out of the club, he looked sweaty and was carrying a baffle bag in his hand...
"Hey, sorry to bother you sir, I would like to join this club. Who do I have to talk to?"
He is not too bad, easy on the eyes, but he wasn't my type. I liked the bad boy kind, with piercings and tattoos all over.
"You can speak to Jacky, but we don't have many women in our club. The women's section only started about a few weeks ago."
"Oh, I thought... and the woman who just entered, is she into racing? It would be good to make a friend."
"No, she is the club's physiotherapist. You could still be a friend to her. Lara is a sweetheart."
Lara... For some reason, I had a feeling that that name would mean something to me, but I didn't know why.
"I'll come by when I have more time. I was just passing by."
"Well, I hope to see you around."
"Bye"
I rushed off before he could say more. I was afraid someone would see me, and I was even more convinced that that man I thought might be Tanner was Tanner.
After making my way back to the cab and telling the driver to take me home, I wondered what all of this meant. I could understand why he was racing under a different identity. If I had Monica as a mother I would be hiding from her too. She controlled everything Tanner did. She even controlled me.
She schooled me into being a cold and heartless b***h like her and I didn't complain. I needed every penny she had to offer, and I really enjoyed the lifestyle I was living now and, yes, it was worth it pretending to love someone, to act like a f*****g b***h in exchange for fancy clothes, a good pay check and free housing.
"You'll never believe what I just found out."
I said to Monica as soon as I got home.
"If you want me to play the guessing game with you, guess again."
"Ag, so you told me to follow Tanner and I did, his racing again."
"And?"
She asked.
"You forbade him from racing."
"Racing is in that boy's blood. I knew he would turn to it again sooner or later."
"Aren't you worried that he has got his memory back?"
"I will worry when he starts asking me questions, anything else?"
"His hanging out with his therapist, Lara."
"Lara who?"
She finally turns to me.
"Oh, I didn't get her last name."
"What does she look like?"
"I don't know her back was turned towards me. What does it matter who she is anyway?"
"The whole point of you going and spying on my son is to get information, Jasmin. What the f**k do you think I can do with an I don't know?"
"I... I could go back."
"Never mind, I'll find out who she is."
She walks away muttering something about how dumb I am, but wasn't I the one worried in the first place?
Lara's P.O.V
I could feel his eyes on the top of my head as I knelt down to examine his leg. It looked like it'd been healing well. I noticed his limp was worse than it was before. He probably wasn't doing the home therapy the doctor instructed him to do... it can be very painful and most of the time people almost always skip out on the therapy, but they have no idea how much it helps.
"You've been skipping out on therapy haven't you?"
"Is there any point in me lying?"
"No, I guess there isn't."
"So are you going to tell me what puts you in such a foul mood?"
"Just thinking about my life's choices"
"That bad huh?"
"Well, I wouldn't say that, good things came from my bad choices, so I can hardly say I regret it."
"Boyfriend issues?"
"Ex if that's what you can call him."
Talking to Ezra seemed to calm my raging thoughts, and we ended up spending more time talking than doing therapy on his leg. I spilled my guts to the guy, and he turned out to be a surprisingly good listener. I have never known men to be as attentive at listening as he was, and it warmed my heart.
"So you never got to speak to him?"
"No, his mother and fiancée didn't allow me to see him."
"Did you try to look for him?"
"No, I was hurt and vengeful, but even happy that he was out of my life, he lied. Shouldn't that be enough to not look for him? Besides, I found out he was rich and well. If it came down to a custody battle, he would have won, so as my mother would say, let sleeping dogs sleep. He also had temporary amnesia, so I doubt he would have remembered me."
"What would you do if he came back?"
"That's the funny thing. I saw him for the first time last night after 6 years."
"And how did that make you feel?"
"Angry, he had the nerve to show up and act like nothing happened."
"You said he had amnesia, maybe he didn't know you worked here, and he was as surprised to see you as you were to see him."
"Temporary amnesia... and if he was surprised to see me, don't you think he has regained his memory? How else would he have known it was me? He is the investor of the club. I doubt they looked into the employee's list... enough about him and me spilling the beans on my so-called ex. So about your leg, I would like to see you thrice a week. When you're not here with me, do the therapy at home. It will help a lot."
I said to him with a smile...
The conversation was hiding in a direction I didn't want it to take. I didn't even know what I wanted to make of Tanner, let alone talk about how his return made me feel.
"I need to tell you something."
He blurted out.
"That serious, huh? Your face just took on this stern look."
I said, looking at him.
"I didn't know."
"You didn't know what?"
"That they would do that to you."
"No one knew they would, Ezra. It's not your fault that some people are like that."
I said smiling.
"No, I didn't know they kept you from seeing me."
"Seeing you?"
I scrunched my face trying to make sense of what he was saying.
"It's me, Tanner."
