“IT SEEMS like a lot of people are disappointed here in Townsville,” Minah remarked as she lay beside Asher on the bed in the room they were staying in. They had just finished dinner and a relaxing chat by the beach with Asher’s entire family. Asher’s dad, Erwan, even mentioned how rare it was for their family to spend time together like this because everyone was always so busy. While chatting, they shared a bottle of red wine but didn’t open another since they were just chilling and not looking to get drunk. It was a calm, intimate bonding session. Even her friend Paul seemed to enjoy it. He told her he planned to have the same kind of bonding with his own family—especially his parents—once he got back to California. Moments like this always made Minah reflect on her “what ifs.” What
