MINAH WOKE UP to the sound of the doorbell ringing over and over again.
As she opened her eyes, she looked around the unfamiliar room in confusion—until she remembered. She had checked into her hotel room earlier and was no longer staying at the transient house she had rented.
It was already eight in the evening.
It looked like she had slept longer than she had planned.
When the doorbell kept ringing, Minah had no choice but to get up and leave the bed. But before heading straight for the main door, she made a quick stop at the bathroom to relieve herself. She brushed her teeth, too. And when she stepped out, she drank a glass of water.
She hadn’t eaten since earlier, and now she was finally starting to feel hungry. She couldn’t let her baby go without food.
