MINAH WOKE UP to the sound of the doorbell ringing over and over again. As she opened her eyes, she looked around the unfamiliar room in confusion—until she remembered. She had checked into her hotel room earlier and was no longer staying at the transient house she had rented. It was already eight in the evening. It looked like she had slept longer than she had planned. When the doorbell kept ringing, Minah had no choice but to get up and leave the bed.
