Hazel claimed that,Ivy said the other, while his sister and mother repeated the same rhyme.
But he chose to believe Ivy, he saw no reason why she would lie to him and make so much effort to deceive him over and over again.
He also didn't believe his family would deliberately lie to him, so he simply chose to believe that his family just didn't like Ivy. They were probably just trying all means to break them up.
